Cannabis Beverages – Social Highs without The Hangover

Cannabis / How to choose / THC / August 12, 2021

Now that cannabis is firmly seated in mainstream culture, entrepreneurs across the board are devising a way to capitalize on the market.

One of the latest creations to deliver cannabis’ intoxicating effects emerges as cannabis beverages. These drinks are popular among consumers as a social accompaniment without the lasting effects associated with a night of drinking or a casual beverage to sip while unwinding at home.

The Appeal Of Cannabis In A Can

Like edibles, cannabis -0infused drinks enter the system through the digestive tract. This is more of a slow-release approach when compared to other methods of ingestion, like sublingual tinctures and suppositories, which can come on in effect quickly and powerfully.

Some might even find that traditional edibles are difficult to dose and are somewhat of an all-or-nothing approach and not very social in the way drinking exists in American culture.

The Difference Between Cannabis Edibles And Beverages

Solid foods take time to be digested and their compounds are absorbed into the bloodstream as that process takes place. Sometimes, this results in a powerful high that the consumer was not prepared for, resulting in an overall negative experience.

Cannabis-infused beverages give consumers the benefit of an edible they can gradually ingest throughout an evening. These beverages also give the consumer a faster acting high. That’s because these liquids are absorbed in the soft tissues of the mouth by way of nanoemulsion. That’s a fancy way of THC oil that is broken down into really small particles, allowing the body to process it more quickly.

This increased availability, from the body’s perspective, is good in the sense that the consumer has a better idea of how inebriated they can expect to become if they stop or continue drinking. Inexperienced THC consumers may want to use this method as an introduction to cannabis products because of the control it affords their pacing and level of intoxication.

Who Makes the Cocktails

Right now, there are plenty of manufacturers making cannabis-infused drinks that take the form of seltzers, wines, beers, teas, colas, and cocktail mixers.

Major cannabis companies are calculating ways to ramp up production and tap into a market they see as potentially worth billions.

Major alcohol manufacturers are taking notice of the upward trend as well, and they want a piece of the action.

So, it makes sense that cannabis manufacturers, with the industry insight and presence, would work with alcohol manufacturers, who have the supply chain and production facilities.

The problem is, many of the products that exist in the category are marketed to, well, “stoners”. Attempting to bring in a new generation of cannabis consumers who don’t have that stereotypical all-in attitude is an entirely different strategy. However, the move can pay off big with the right minds behind it.

Brightfield Group is researching the market potential for cannabis beverages. Bethany Gomez, Brightfield’s managing director asserts as much when she says, “This is a category that can be moved dramatically if someone can get it right. No one’s gotten it right yet.”

What The Cannabis Beverage Market Is Worth

Brightfield conducts constant monitoring of the cannabis industry and the Group’s research indicates that US Cannabis beverage sales in the U.S. may reach $421 million this year. That is a number more than double those observed in 2019.

Brightfield expects that cannabis beverages will account for more than $1 billion in cannabis product sales by 2025. Even with such massive growth in a short period, this sector of the legal cannabis industry as a whole is only 2% of the pie.

Entrepreneurs breaking into the beverage market are anxiously weighing the opportunity along with the obstacles. In making cannabis beverages work on a scale that flower and edibles already exist in the recreational and medicinal markets, the right formula will result in success and offer novice and seasoned consumers, along with everyone in-between, a new alternative way to enjoy their bud without falling asleep on the couch.
